New Encyclical “Magnifica Humanitas” Addresses Artificial Intelligence and Human Dignity

On May 25, 2026, Pope Leo XIV released his first Encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas (“Magnificent Humanity”), focused on the growing role of artificial intelligence and the importance of protecting human dignity in an increasingly technological world. The document reflects on the moral, social, and spiritual questions raised by AI while calling for technology to remain firmly at the service of the human person rather than replacing or diminishing humanity itself.

Blessed Karl consistently promoted the dignity of the human person and the moral responsibilities of leaders in times of great social change. In many ways, Pope Leo’s new Encyclical continues this longstanding tradition of Catholic social teaching by reminding the world that authentic human flourishing can never be separated from conscience, faith, and the sacred value of every human life. Because of the importance of this Encyclical and its relevance to many of the ethical questions facing the modern world, we are pleased to share Pope Leo’s new Encyclical below.
