A Life Lived in Fiat
“Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” — Luke 1:38
Karl’s vocation unfolded in ways he could never have foreseen — the sudden crown, the burden of war, the loss of everything, and the hidden offering of his final years. At each stage he accepted what was given, not as fate, but as mission. His life became a sustained “yes” to God. Mary’s fiat was not a single moment but a path that led from Nazareth to Calvary. In the same way, Karl’s consent was renewed through changing circumstances, each one asking for a deeper trust. We stand in that same place whenever life moves beyond our plans. Holiness begins when we allow God’s will to take the form of our own history.
Blessed Karl, teach us to say yes to God in all things. Amen.
