Fasting in Exile
“Man shall not live by bread alone.” — Matthew 4:4
Material poverty was no longer a chosen discipline for Karl; it was his daily reality. Yet he accepted it with gratitude, never allowing deprivation to become bitterness. What he lacked outwardly became an interior offering. Our voluntary fasting unites us to this deeper truth: that life does not depend on what we possess. When we relinquish something freely, we rediscover what sustains us. His poverty reveals that Christ alone is enough.
Blessed Karl, make our sacrifices fruitful and sincere. Amen.
