Compassion for Soldiers

“Greater love has no one than this.” — John 15:13

Karl could not see soldiers as numbers or strategy. He visited them, spoke with them, and wept for them. Each life was personal to him. We are surrounded by suffering that can easily become abstract — needs reduced to headlines, people reduced to categories. Compassion begins when we allow another’s pain to reach us. His tears for his people reveal the heart of Christ. The same heart is formed in us when we refuse to remain distant.

Blessed Karl, give us a love that sees each person as a gift. Amen.
