Plans Underway for New Karl and Zita Windows at Christendom College

On April 15, 2023, Christendom College’s new Christ the King Chapel was dedicated by Bishop Michael Burbidge in Front Royal, VA. Christendom College currently has over 500 students, with a growing enrollment necessitating the construction project to replace the college’s existing chapel. The new chapel, which features a 116-foot crossing tower, was designed by the architectural firm O’Brien & Keene.

Artistic plans for the chapel include 100 stained glass windows executed in the Munich picture style. 30 are presently installed with 70 more currently in various stages of production. Among the plans for the clerestory windows are two featuring Blessed Karl of Austria, and his wife Servant of God Zita. Positioned over a side chapel dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the windows will help students and visitors recall two of the most important saintly figures from the last century.

With a cost of $100K, the college has set up a webpage to help raise awareness and funds for the window’s featuring Karl and Zita. It is their hope to raise the needed project funds within the next 90 days so that production of the windows can begin.
