Emperor Karl – a man of God, family, country, and peace.
Karl ascended the throne as the last emperor of Austria-Hungrary during the tumult of the first world war in 1916. He saw his office as a commission from God and duty to follow and imitate Christ, the one true King. While he died in exile just six years later at the age of 35, Karl led a heroic and saintly life, praying at his death, “Thy Holy Will be done. Jesus, Jesus, come! Yes—yes. My Jesus as Thou willst it—Jesus.” Today, The League of Prayer advances the cause of canonization for Blessed Karl.
