Gebetsliga Statement on the Passing of Pope Francis

With deep sorrow and heartfelt gratitude, the Emperor Karl League of Prayer mourns the passing of Pope Francis, a Holy Father whose papacy was marked by profound humility, tireless advocacy for peace, and a courageous witness to the Gospel.

We are especially grateful for Pope Francis’ sincere and enduring support of the Cause for Canonization of Blessed Karl of Austria. In his words, Pope Francis described Blessed Karl as “a man of peace who fought for peace with all his strength,” recognizing in him a Christian leader who “put the Eucharist and love of neighbor at the center of his life and governance.”

Pope Francis often pointed to Blessed Karl as a model for today’s leaders—one who sought peace not for political gain, but as a moral and spiritual imperative. In honoring him, the Holy Father helped the world rediscover a statesman of deep faith who gave everything for the cause of reconciliation. His support of Blessed Karl’s Cause was a reflection of his deep belief that peace, rooted in prayer and courage, remains the Church’s urgent mission. In their shared witness, we find inspiration to continue walking the path of peace.
