Three Days of Celebrations Honoring Blessed Karl in Washington, DC

The Emperor Karl League of Prayer USA / Canada invites the faithful to participate in three days of liturgical celebrations in the Washington, DC area, honoring Blessed Karl of Austria as the Church looks toward his feast day on October 21.

Blessed Karl, the last Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary, is remembered for his fidelity to the Eucharist, dedication to peace, and heroic witness to Christian family life. His cause for canonization continues to inspire devotion worldwide.

Schedule of Events

  • Saint Mary Mother of God Church, 727 5th St NW, Washington, DC 20001

    10:00am Mass of the 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time, offered for the intentions of the Emperor Karl League of Prayer

    • Celebrant: Rev. Mark Ivany, Pastor

    • Music Director: Todd Beckham, featuring a Mass composed in honor of Blessed Karl by Paul Jernberg

    • Reception: Coffee & donuts in the parish hall

  • Saint John the Beloved Church, 6420 Linway Terrace, McLean, VA 22101

    8:00pm Missa Cantata for the Feast of St. John Cantius, offered for the intentions of the League of Prayer

    • Celebrant: Very Rev. Christopher J. Pollard, Pastor

    • Music by Organist and Choir Director David Lang, featuring a Mass by Austrian composer Michael Haydn

    • Reception in the parish school following Mass

  • Saint Thomas the Apostle Church, 2665 Woodley Road, NW Washington, DC, 20008

    7:00pm Feast Day Mass of Blessed Karl

    • Celebrant: Rev. Richard Mullins, Pastor

    • Parish Choir under the direction of Monsignor Andrew Wadsworth, featuring music by Mozart

    • Reception in the parish hall following Mass

    • Participation by the chivalric orders of the Church

Special Guests

Descendants of Blessed Karl will join the celebrations at each event, including:

  • Princess Maria-Anna Galitzine (Granddaughter)

  • Archduke Imre von Habsburg (Great Grandson) with his wife, Archduchess Kathleen

Guests are warmly invited to join in prayer at the Masses and at the after-Mass receptions for remarks, questions, and fellowship.
