These audio files of Austria-Hungary's last Emperor, Karl I, were recorded in the months prior to his accession to the combined Austro-Hungarian throne in November/December 1916. Before the death of Emperor Franz-Josef I, Karl served in active field command positions, a career which inevitably came to an abrupt end once he became Emperor.

In this audio clip, recorded on February 16, 1916, Karl gives his formal blessing to the Imperial Austrian Fund established to aid military widows and orphans.
